Goodbye Dear Stove

Dear Stove,

Parting is such sweet sorrow. I turned to you to feed countless dinner guests and you never failed to come through for me. You baked at a uneven temperatures but I learned to adjust. Your coils were crooked but I didn’t care. You were never the prettiest but I loved you anyway. You roasted countless turkeys and cooked foie gras, lobsters in beurre monté, cookies, cakes and pies. You made me happy and better yet, you made the people in my world happy. And for that I thank you. I have loved you for so long but it is now time to say goodbye. Thank you for the years of service.  Go and be amongst the kitchen angels. May you rest in peace and know that you will never be forgotten.

  1. I totally get your post. I think it's fitting that we memorialise that which has enriched our lives. This summer I was preparing my father's house for sale after he'd lived there for 40+ years. Whirring away in the basement was a McLeary-Easy, Canadian-made refrigerator that my parents had bought in the late 1950's. I have of black and white photo of me standing in front of it as a toddler. It never failed them and over 60 years later it was still working. Now that's one tough appliance that deserves a eulogy!

  3. I am sure it was a very nice stove but looks like it’s time to make room for … the new appliance on the block. The stove is dead – vive le nouveau four !
